The ninth annual Transmodern Festival is this weekend in Baltimore, a “cultural phenomenon presenting radical, experimental, expectation-defying work from local, national and international artists.” There are a variety of artists and musicians worth a gander, but one caught our eye.

Saturday night the D:center hosts Crowd Surfing, an installation curated by Katie Kehoe. During the Weekends performance, spectators are encouraged to crowd surf themselves and artwork designed for this purpose.

More info on the Transmodern Festival is here.

Jacober - Arrest

Jacober is the project of a busy Baltimore soul - a force that drums for Dope Body and the Dan Deacon ensemble, and is one half of Holy Ghost Party.

Water Karaoke is his debut collection of weird pop music, an introspective adventure through the things you tend to fascinate over when you’re not moving at full speed. Like Jacober’s other projects, it pulls from a variety of sounds, never quite getting too comfortable in any certain realm.

Check out the sub-aquatic video for “Steps” by Mark Brown.

Pay what you want to download or order the tape right here.

Lower Dens - Propagation

As if we weren’t already stoked enough for the new Lower Dens LP to drop in May, Celebration just got added to their hometown bill at the Ottobar on May 5. “Propagation” is the latest single from Nootropics, another piece of droning beauty taken from the band’s stunning follow up to their debut.

More info on the show is here, the LP is out May 1 on Ribbon.

Flock of Dimes’, Prison Bride 7”

Introducing the debut release from Flock of Dimes, the solo project by Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak. The inaugural 7” features newly-mastered “Prison Bride” as the A side, and “I Can’t Tell You Why (screwed mix)” on side B.

It’s limited to 500 on orange vinyl with design by Rose MF Chase and photos by Jana Hunter. It’s out April 19 for tour with Sharon Van Etten.

When Wasner wasn’t touring with Wye Oak last year, she was busy writing and recording Flock of Dimes. That is to say, when she wasn’t singing on Future Islands’ On The Water, appearing on White Life’s debut, or working on one of the other million projects she involved in. “Prison Bride” marks the first glimpse at what Wasner’s been brewing, an infectious breed of future-pop that has at the least, fallen from the same (state) tree.

Pre-order Flock of Dimes’ Prison Bride right here, full post is on IMPOSE.

Sam Shea linked us this in a chat the other day, his footage from the Effervescent Collective’s Turn Into last weekend. Lighting was by Greg St. Pierre. Above you’ll find Zomes providing a soundtrack, whereas below Dustin Wong paints an aural backdrop for the performance.

Zomes and Dustin Wong both have LPs out recently on Thrill Jockey.
